Happy 2017 everyone! This time of year everyone thinks about resolutions. You can’t help it, especially with a lot of people thinking 2016 was one of the worst years in a while. It feels like it engrained in our brains to reset every year. I love the idea behind a new year. It gives everyone a chance to start over, make changes, leave bad vibes behind and have a fresh outlook.
I have been thinking a lot about what the future of designpetproject will be and what I want to accomplish in 2017 for our house and in my personal life. Resolutions for me are really hard to keep. I tend to think about them way too vaguely and then I feel like I am breaking them over and over again. Hello giving up all dairy in 2016…I am sure I am not alone.
This year I am setting goals for myself, the blog, and our house. These goals are things that I want to continue or finish this year. I am always starting new things. This year I am going to be mindful of finishing projects/goals that I have already started. I think this will allow me to be successful. I will probably over shoot the goals and not complete all of them. They might morph into something new and exciting but I am prepared for that.
Finish what you have started!
HOUSE GOALS/RESOLUTIONS
GENERAL
-Put up all of the art that we have collected so we can enjoy it and not just have it stacked up in the house
-Keep the dog hair under control. Get a regular vaccuming schedule
-Clean out the closets and donate everything not needed BEFORE you start redesigning the closets
-Finally find and install new ceiling fans. I have my eye on this one from Big Ass fans
EXTERIOR
-Paint front door and accessorize (Future blog post! Stay tuned!)
BATHROOM FIXES
-Install new fan (there has been a hole in the ceiling for it since the summer)
-Fix the broken tile and caulk the edges (Super gross right now)
-Put in new sink piping so the drain doesn’t clog all of the time
-Purchase and install a new bathroom faucet
FINISH THE KITCHEN
-Demo Floor Tile and Install new flooring (Type TBD) and new wood base
-Pick out a type of backsplash and install it
-Pick out new stools and accessories
PERSONAL GOALS/RESOLUTIONS
-Run a half marathon (I will be doing the Disney Princess half at the end of February)
-Find a day a week to schedule yoga again, I really miss it
-Write down all of my passwords…and tell someone where they are
-Work on being content with myself and work on appreciating the moment I am in and not always looking for what is next (I don’t know how I am going to measure this yet)
-Find new ways to be involved with Safe Hands Rescue since Penny decided she doesn’t want to share the house with foster dogs anymore
-Eat things that don’t make you sick. They are called food sensitivities for a reason. Goodbye dairy…..again. Goodbye soy…Eggs, you were gone a long time ago.
-Stop saying you are “super busy” when people ask you how you are. It seems like people only say that when they are doing things they don’t want to do. I am going to continue to work on being positive and only “busy” myself with things that are important and that I enjoy doing.
-Appreciate the people and animals in my life and let them know it. Check out how cute Penny & Molly are!
DESIGNPETPROJECT GOALS/RESOLUTIONS
-Grow the subscriber list (Goal Number TBD)
-Figure out this SEO thing
-Monetize the blog so I can spend money improving the blog
-Learn how to use my soon to be purchased dslr camera
-Schedule and publish 1 blog a week for the next year (unless there is a reason not to)
-Figure out how to use Pinterest to increase blog readers
I challenge you all to think about what is important this year. Let me know your goals or resolutions for 2017 in the comments section or on our Facebook page!
Happy 2017!

I especially like your goal about “super busy.” How did that become the new “fine”? I might need to try for better questions to help others keep me out of that pit, too.

I agree. I find myself using it as an excuse or to try to justify things. This year I am going to change that! Let me know if you have an success!
