Penny crossed the Rainbow Bridge on June 18, 2018. She is an incredible friend, daughter, and sister. We can never repay her for the unconditional love she shows us. It seems unbearable to have lost her. She is the OG of kids at the Vlasak Nilsson house and we will miss her forever. I am so thankful for Safe Hands. They took a chance on our girl and her 6 puppies and granted our family the best 9 years with her. 9 years is not long enough. She is a bright light and always protecting us.
Penny was very sick with Kidney Disease. She made the best of it but we knew it was time to let her go. Now she is in doggy heaven with all of the other Safe Hands kids and our family members, human and canine. I know she is still with us in spirit.
I have kept this post in the present tense as I know she will always be with us. Below is the archived post. I have also added more pics and videos from our lives together and will keep adding them as we go through our awesome memories with our girl.
Thanks for all of the love you have shared with us Penny. We love you so much.

Penny is tough on the exterior with a soft heart. We adopted Penny, aka Penn Penn, aka Penny Bell, from Safe Hands Animal Rescue when she was 1 – 1-½ years old.
She was in rough shape. She had just finished weaning 6 puppies that were ready to be adopted. She had the hugest boobs from the puppies and I think they had sucked all of the nutrients out of her. Her coat was really dull and she needed a good night sleep, a big meal, and a lot of love without all of her mom duties. She was just hangin out waiting for us to realize that she belonged in our family.
Our family could give her a chance to be a puppy again. Ben and I knew we wanted to adopt a dog but we didn’t know how much we had been missing. I can’t believe I even had a life before my canine kids. Our house was missing a dog. We didn’t even know how big the hole was until Penny filled it. She is such a sweetheart.
She acts like the protector of our family but as soon as she gets to know you she is a softy. Penny is super smart and lets us know when things are going on by barking, growling, and pawing us until she can show us what’s up in the neighborhood.
She loves going on long walks and car rides. Her favorite toys are a stuffed rat and a flea.
Penny gives hugs by burrowing her head into you and having you scratch her ears. She also likes her tummy and butt rubbed.
Penny has a few white whiskers and great bat like ears that are very expressive with her thoughts.
